Custom Bracing and Sports/ Athletic Taping

Taping is a method of supporting tissues and protecting them from unnecessary strain. In the immediate injury care stages, taping can be used to hold sterile dressings in place to provide a barrier to infection or it can maintain the position of a joint or soft tissue to protect it from further damage. These early techniques can also aid in controlling the amount of swelling that accompanies injuries to the musculoskeletal system.

In later stages of injury care, taping will provide a measure of soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament, joint capsule) control which places the injured tissue in a position that will promote optimal healing and repair.

Some taping may be completed for prophylactic or preventative reasons, when certain areas of the body are prone to excessive or repeated stresses.

Another common reason for taping is for proprioceptive purposes or to help provide ‘cues’ to the area being taped to aid in correct muscle firing patterns or to help in the avoidance of certain positions/postures.

At ‘Peak to Shore’ we also offer a selection of custom and over the counter braces, which is a sometimes needed, and more permanent, replacement for taping.
