Functional Movement Screens

Athletes today are working to become stronger and faster.  These individuals are continuously working to improve their activities by increasing their flexibility, strength, endurance, and power.  Tremendous amounts of these athlete’s are performing high-level activities even though they are inefficient in their fundamental movements.  Without knowing it, these individuals are putting fitness on dysfunction.  These athletes create poor movement patterns, train around a pre-existing problem or simply do not train their weakness during their conditioning.  The weaknesses need to be exposed and the idea is to create an individualized program based on the person’s weak link.  This is a functional or physical limitation.  If the weak link is not identified, the body will compensate, causing inefficient movements.  It is this type of inefficiency that can cause a decrease in performance and an increase in injuries.

By completing a musculoskeletal physical examination and a Functional Movement Screen, we will seek to identify individuals at risk.  A corrective exercise program can then be created to address these ‘weak links’.  When this is accomplished the athlete will have a greater movement efficiency, which will lead to improved performance and hopefully a decrease in the potential for injury.

Each athlete will receive a musculoskeletal assessment, Functional Movement Screen, and a corrective exercise program completed by a Registered Physiotherapist.

Team or individual testing is available.
